Mr. Koebel will present to Psychology and Sociology classes later this week regarding body image and eating disorder issues. We are constantly bombarded with images of thin, beautiful people which can make it very difficult to maintain a healthy body image.
Some statistics to ponder:
-One in four college-aged women engages in disordered eating.
-Due to public perception, men are less likely to seek help for eating disorders.
-If Barbie were a real person, she would have to walk on all fours due to her proportions.
-Most fashion models are thinner than 98% of women.
Many of the images that we see in the media are not real. They are edited, altered, or airbrushed in some way. The following "Evolution" video from Dove cleverly shows how images are altered to fit an "ideal."

Finding Kind
"Finding Kind" is an award-winning documentary that focuses on the issue of female bullying.
"In February 2009, while attending Pepperdine University, two young girls recognized a problem and decided to do something about it. Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, both affected by female bullying, decided to create a documentary and non-profit that would ultimately change the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across America. The girls have gone on three national tours, spreading their school assembly program and documentary film in hundreds of schools and communities across the country." www.kindcampaign.com
